New Director ID – Calling All Directors

A director ID is a 15-digit identifier given to a director (or someone who intends to become a director) who has verified their identity with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Director ID will increase transparency, help regulators track director relationships with companies, strengthen efforts to identify and eliminate director involvement in unlawful behaviours (such as illegal phoenix activity- external site), and help foster a fairer business environment for all.

When and how to apply

When a director needs to apply depends on when they were appointed, and under which Act.

If appointed under the Corporations Act 2001:

• before or on 31 October 2021, directors must apply by 30 November 2022
• between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022, directors must apply within 28 days of being appointed
• from 5 April 2022, directors must apply before they are appointed.
